On-Camera Performance Tips
The best way to prepare for a TV audition is to understand that the camera is a leveler. To the camera all viewers are equal.
When we watch TV we become open and receptive to whatever we see. We lower our defenses allowing what is presented to enter our minds. This is how we judge whether we are interested or not. We always hope for the best: that what we see will be interesting and exciting. Often it’s not, but it is what we want.
The key to successful auditions is realizing that, to the camera, TV producers are viewers. They too must lower their defenses and allow you to enter. Only then can they judge whether you have what they are looking for. Their ‘professional’ judgement is inherently personal. Producers, too, always hope for the best!
So, when you audition, imagine a perfect viewer who loves everything you say and do. Dazzle that viewer and you will dazzle all, including those self-same producers you want to impress.
